PHI vs. DET Pick: DET ML

Boston came through on our last Daily Pick. Travel preparations kept us away yesterday, but we’re back tonight with Detroit on the moneyline at -138 against Philadelphia.

The Red Wings haven’t gotten much reward for their work so far. They’re 1–3–2 despite averaging 31.8 shots on goal and allowing 27.3. Philadelphia’s numbers tell a different story: 20.8 shots for, 34.6 against, and eight games without a win. Detroit has struggled to finish its opportunities. The Flyers have struggled to generate them in the first place.

Daniil Tarasov knows all about the Wings’ scoring troubles. He stopped every one of Montreal’s 30 shots in his last start and still left with a 1–0 shootout loss. He gets the net again tonight, this time against a Philadelphia attack missing Travis Konecny. With Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen also unavailable, the Flyers are short-handed on a blue line that has already been spending too much time under pressure.

Detroit has to make that pressure count. The Wings are scoring just 2.33 goals per game, and their penalty kill has been poor enough to undo good work at even strength. More shots alone won’t solve either problem. But Philadelphia has been allowing opponents to establish themselves offensively, and that gives Detroit a favorable assignment at home.

We’re backing the Wings to spend more of this game attacking than defending, with Tarasov coming off an encouraging performance behind them. At -138, there’s enough in this matchup to put Detroit on today’s ticket.
